Student Tips

A short, practical guide to finding a place you'll actually be happy in — without overpaying or getting surprised later.

Work out your real monthly cost

  • Rent is only part of it. Add electricity, water, WiFi, food, laundry, and travel to campus.
  • Use the cost breakdown on each listing to compare places fairly — a 'cheap' PG far from campus can cost more once travel is added.
  • Ask what's included: some PGs bundle food and WiFi, others charge extra.

What to check before choosing

  • Distance and walk time to campus, and how safe the route feels at night.
  • Water supply, power backup, and internet speed — the things that ruin daily life if they're bad.
  • Rules that matter to you: curfew, gate timing, guest policy, and food preferences.
  • Read the reviews for food, safety, cleanliness, and how responsive the landlord is.

Finding a roommate

  • Sharing cuts your rent and makes a new city less lonely — but compatibility matters.
  • Use roommate matching to compare budget, sleep schedule, cleanliness, and study habits before you commit.
  • Talk to a potential roommate before moving in together, even if the match score is high.

Moving in

  • Get the rent, deposit, notice period, and what's included in writing.
  • Take dated photos of the room's condition on day one.
  • Save the owner's contact and note your emergency contacts nearby.
